NOTICE OF RACE
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in The Racing Rules of Sailing 2005-2008, (including Appendix D) and the 2005 Rules for JSA Events.
2.1 All competitors must comply with the eligibility rules of the JSA of LIS.
2.2 This regatta is for 420s which will not use their trapeze equipment or spinnakers. Spinnaker gear (including halyards and topping lifts) should be removed and trapeze wires should be secured to guy hooks in order to keep all boats similarly rigged. All boats should have mainsheet bridles.
2.3 All participants shall be certified as competent for this event by either the head instructor or the program head of their member program.
2.4 Teams will consist of three boats each, including six sailors and up to two alternates. Teams may be a combination of sailors from different clubs as long as each team has a coach.
2.5 Logistics may require limiting the number of entries accepted; early submission of entries is encouraged.
3.1 RSVP to RYCJrSailing@hotmail.com and send the entry fee of $50 per sailor to Riverside Yacht Club.
3.2 A completed JSA Standard Waiver and Medical Release Form is required for each competitor.
3.3 The entry fee and all forms must be received by RYC Junior Sailing, c/o Riverside Yacht Club, 102 Club Road, Riverside, CT 06878 no later than 5:00 PM on July 20, 2005. One check, payable to Riverside Yacht Club, must be drawn per club for all fees.
3.4 If either the JSA weight or age requirement is not met, the sailor must file written permission from a parent, plus written recommendations from his or her program chair and head instructor, with the entry form (see JSA rules 6.3 and 7.3).
All skippers and crews must appear in person at the registration table during the registration period. Sailing instructions will be available before or during this time.
This event is not a qualifying event for the 2005 JSA C420 Championship.
6.1 Upon finishing each race, a boat intending to protest shall as soon as possible, without consultation with instructors or spectators, notify the race committee of her intent to protest and, if possible, the sail number of the protested boat. This adds to rule 61.1(a).
7.1 A round robin rotation will be organized based on the number of teams registered.

8.1 All boats must conform to and any applicable JSA safety or measurement rules. Boats are subject to inspection by the organizing authority or the judges at any time during the event.
8.2 Some or all competitors in classes with minimum weight restrictions may be required to weigh in during the registration period.
The racing area will be Captain’s Harbor near Riverside YC.
Races will be scored by number of races won in accordance with Appendix D4.
11.1 All boats will be launched from the beach.
11.2 Boats and/or trailers will be stored in the parking lot dinghy dry sail area.
12 Housing, Meals and Local Transportation
12.1 Housing can be provided with advance notice. Please leave a message at the Junior Sailing Club house (203) 637-2708 if you need housing.
12.2 Competitors must bring their own lunch, dinner will be provided on Saturday.
12.3 Transportation between the Yacht Club and housing will be provided by the host family.
All junior sailors are expected to behave in accordance with recognized principles of sportsmanship, good manners and fair play. The regatta organizer or protest committee may discipline and/or penalize a junior sailor for actions that include, but are not limited to, the following:
a) swearing at, intimidating or harassing anyone, including teammates, on or off the water; or
b) stealing or borrowing, without permission, anything that does not belong to them; or
c) possessing, consuming or being under the influence of alcohol or illegal drugs.
All clubs shall supply a support craft equipped with a working VHF Radio, an anchor and a first aid kit. An instructor or other adult shall drive the support craft in accordance with JSA 9.4 (c) and (d) and shall check with the regatta organizers before the first day's harbor start about safety patrol assignments and responsibilities. Spectator and coach boats shall stay well clear of the course area while boats are racing.
15.1 Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams.
15.2 A sportsmanship trophy may be awarded at the discretion of the race committee.
As a condition of the participation of any boat in any race or related activity sponsored or undertaken by the Riverside Yacht Club, the owner, helmsperson and each crewmember agree that the safety of the boat and the crew and the decision whether or not to start or continue to race is solely their responsibility. Each of them waives all claims which he or she, or any heir, representative, successor or assignee, may have against the Riverside Yacht Club and the JSA of LIS and each of their officers, trustees, members, committees, employees or agents, arising out of or in any way connected with participation in such race or activity. Responsibility for evaluating wind, sea and weather conditions rests with each competitor as does the responsibility for the safe condition and operation of their boat including safety equipment and rigging and for wearing a life jacket. Assistance from the race committee, patrol boats, or other support boats and from personnel aboard them is at the risk of the participant.
