Under hot sunny skies and a light southweserly, 8 teams from LIS competed for the first Optimist team racing championships. The teams raced on a "digital N" style course and sailed through a complete round robin by 2 pm. The teams then split into a Gold championship and Silver consolation division and sailed another complete round robin, for a total of 10 races for each team, requiring 40 starts. The teams sailed very well, with 5 teams dominating in the first round robin: Larchmont and American with 6 wins, Pequot with 5 wins, and Noroton and NBSA with 4 wins each. Noroton won the tiebreaker, so the top 4 teams met in a round robin in a building southwesterly. Again the teams were very evenly matched, with Noroton and Pequot winning 2 of 3 matches, while Larchmont and American won 1 each. These scores yielded a triple tie for first place between Larchomont, American, and Pequot, each winning 7 matches, while Noroton was only 1 win behind with 6. Using the tie breaker specified in the sailing instructions, American was finally declared the winner, with Pequot in second, Larchmont in third, and Noroton a close 4th. NBSA dominated the Silver division, finishing 1,2,3 in each race for an easy win, followed by Riverside, Rocky Point, and Indian Harbor.
