Rules and Conditions for YRA of LIS Finals of the Chubb US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships

The CHUBB US SAILING JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS LADDER

A.      The winners of the YRA Association Quarter-Finals throughout the United States compete at ten Area Semi-Finals whose winners in turn compete at the National Finals of the Chubb US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships. These National Finals include three series: the Sears Cup, sailed in 3 or 4-person boats; the Bemis Trophy, sailed in double-handed boats; and the Smythe Trophy, sailed in single-handed boats.

B.      The conduct of the National Finals and the Area Semi-Finals is governed by three documents published by the United States Sailing Association: Conditions, Notice of Race and Championship Sailing Instructions.

C.      JSA supervises the conduct of the Association Quarter-Finals on behalf of the YRA of Long Island Sound. The Rules for All JSA Events shall apply to the YRA of LIS Quarter-Finals. At each YRA of LIS Quarter-Finals there will be a jury of at least three Judges appointed by the Chairman of the JSA Board of Directors. Only one of the judges may be from the club hosting the event.

D.      All members of each entering team at the YRA of LIS Quarter-Finals shall meet the eligibility criteria described in the conditions attached to the Notice of Race for the US SAILING Junior Sailing Championships.

E.       The Law Trophy Regatta, which is for Club 420s, Lasers and Laser Radials and is hosted by the Indian Harbor Yacht Club, serves as the YRA of LIS Association Quarter-Finals for the Bemis and Smythe Trophies.  Skippers eligible to participate in the Law Trophy Regatta are those who finished in the top 40% at specific JSA scheduled events for Lasers, Laser Radials and Club 420s during the previous year, or sailed in the Area B Semi-Finals in the previous year, or were in vited to sail in the US Sailing Youth Sailing Championships in the current year. Additional competitors, who submit resumes by June 15th, may be approved by the Chairman of the JSA Board of Directors. The JSA Sears Regatta sailed in Ideal 18s is also hosted by the Indian Harbor Yacht Club and serves as the YRA of LIS Association Quarter-Finals for the Sears Trophy.

F.       The first and second place finishers of the Club 420 class and the Laser (standard rig) class in the Law Trophy Regatta are eligible to advance in the Bemis and Smythe ladders respectively. The first and second place finishers of JSA Sears Regatta are eligible to advance in the Sears ladder. If a sailor or team who qualifies chooses not to advance to the Area B Semi-Finals, the next finisher may advance in the series. 

G.      Any sailor or team who advances must commit to the entire series and be available, if successful, to compete at the Area Semi-Finals and National Finals.  Sailors must make their commitments known to the representative of the JSA Board immediately following the awards ceremony of the Law Trophy (Bemis and Smythe) and JSA Sears Regattas.

H.      Entry fees for all JSA representatives who compete in the Area B Semi-Finals will be paid by the JSA.

Area B Semi-Finals: July 21-23, Nyack Boat Club, Nyack NY (C420s, Lasers, and Lightnings)
