2008 Law Trophy Qualifiers

The Commodore Law Trophy Regatta, hosted by Indian Harbor Yacht Club on July 7 & 8th, 2008, is the YRA of LIS association quarter-finals for the US Sailing Bemis and Smythe National Championships. The winners of the Club 420 division and the first and second place finishers in the Standard Laser division will be eligible to represent the JSA at the Area B Semi-Finals of the Bemis and Smythe National Championships to be held at Nyack Boat Club, Nyack NY on July 21-23, 2008.

2.1 The Regatta is open to any JSA member sailing a Laser, Laser Radial or Club 420 who meets at least one of the following criteria:

   1) Finished in the top 40% in 2007 in their division of the Eastern Districts, Western Districts, Larchmont Race Week or C420, Laser, Laser Radial Race Week. Click here for the List of Top 40% Qualifying Skippers.

    2) Sailed in the 2007 Area B semi-finals of the Sears, Bemis or Smythe;
    3) Was invited to sail in the 2008 US Sailing Youth Sailing Championship.
    4) Was accepted by resume at the discretion of the Chairman of the JSA.

2.2 Competitors shall have reached their 13th but not their 19th birthday in the 2008 calendar year.
2.3 Competitors who are not members of a sailing club located in the geographic area represented by the YRA of LIS, but meet all other eligibility requirements, may sail in the Laser Radial division only. They are not eligible to advance in the US Sailing Championship ladder from this YRA of LIS association quarter-finals.
2.4 Competitors must be members of US SAILING.

If you do not meet at least one of the above criteria, yet you believe that your skills qualify you for participation in the Commodore Law Trophy Regatta, you may submit your sailing resume (click here) no later than June 15, 2008. Decisions by the JSA Chairman will be based on information in your resume from your 2007 sailing season that began on March 15, 2007 up through the Spring of 2008 and sailors must demonstrate a clear and compelling reason why they should be admitted to compete in this regatta. Evidence of exceptional growth in Fall or Spring regattas is important, as is success in the fleet in which you are applying to sail.
