Description: The Hempstead Harbour Club located in Glen Cove, New York on the North Shore of Long Island, is seeking a Sailing Instructor for the 2010 Season and beyond. The Hempstead Harbour Club is a member of JSA and a founding member of the Yacht Racing Association of Long Island Sound. It has up-to-date facilities for the launching, retrieval and maintenance of boats, and offers a friendly, supportive atmosphere for its Juniors, who range in age from 8 to 15 years old. Class instruction and coaching is done in the Club’s Optis, Pixels and Blue Jays with support boats. Regular lessons run for seven weeks from the end of June through mid-August, and are conducted Monday through Thursday, with Fridays reserved for regattas, coaching and boat maintenance. Travel to JSA Regattas with the Juniors is expected of instructors. Salary is commensurate with experience and is competitive with what is paid by other Long Island Sound clubs. US Sailing Level 1 Certifications together with First Aid, CPR and power boat training will be required prior to the start of the Program, but the Club reimburses its instructors for successful completion of pre-approved US Sailing and JSA Courses and Workshops. The Club is currently seeking one instructor for the 2010 season to augment its existing staff. We are looking for mature, enthusiastic applicants with solid sailing experience, and good organizational and communication skills. A racing resume is a plus, but not required.

Description: Wee Burn Beach Club located in beautiful Rowayton CT is seeking several experienced, energetic Junior Sailing instructors to continue to grow our program of 40-50 sailors. our program is made up of of all levels our participants range in age from 8-15. The current program consists of both a morning (younger/beginner) group and an afternoon sailing session (older/more experienced) for Opti sailors and lasers.

Wee Burn is primarily a recreational program, but consistently have a group of racers who have done well over the years coaching in most of the Opti regattas on Long Island Sound. Each year the mix changes, so we are looking for some all around experienced instructors and possibly looking for a good race coach instructor that have a passion for sailing and can instill that love of sailing in the kids. We are looking for mature candidates who will be good role models promoting sportsmanship and teamwork. Self motivation and organization are very important as well. We will look to the instructors to further refine the curriculum and operate the program with a fair amount of autonomy. Good communication skills with children and adults are a must. Wee Burn is a great place to work and the Club has a very good record of instructors returning in all of our Junior programs.

Roton Point Association - Head Instructor Position 2010

Description: Roton Point is looking for a dynamic head instructor to lead our junior sailing program. The tradition at Roton Point is to teach the love of sailing through a disciplined, nurturing, encouraging and relaxing atmosphere. Last year our program consisted of 30 Optimist sailors and 10 Pixel sailors. Throughout the summer the sailors participate in weekly activities such as Halloween at Sea, Pirate Day, and Olympic Day. At least once during the summer the sailors and their families participate in a Family Fun Night. Roton Point also hosts an annual Green Fleet Regatta in late July. Last year a race team was established and was led by the head instructor. The team consisted of 12 experienced and dedicated sailors who participated in 5 regattas. Six of these sailors qualified and participated in the Optimist Championships. In addition to the race team our other experienced sailors participated in a navigation program. This year we are expecting to create a Big Boat Program.

The head instructor will lead 4-5 other instructors and work closely with the director of junior sailing. The head instructor is to act professional at all times, have excellent communication skills with children as well as adults, have experience as an instructor for at least 4 years, be able to operate power boats, and have all necessary sailing instructor certifications. Pay for the head instructor position is competitive and housing accommodations are a possibility.

Description: Black Rock Yacht Club (BRYC) is looking to fill several junior sailing instructor positions as well as a head sailing instructor position for the upcoming 2010 season. The sailing program at BRYC has experienced significant growth over the last few years, with nearly 100 juniors ranging in age from 7 to 17 years old sailing Optis, Pixels, C420s and Lasers. BRYC has recently invested in a new fleet of eight Pixels and four C420s in order to support this growing interest in sailing by our juniors. Two years ago, we expanded our program to include a “Salty Dog Program” in order to introduce our young juniors, ages 4 to 6 years old, to water safety and the joy of sailing. In addition to a traditional dinghy sailing program, instructors at BRYC will have the opportunity to engage in our very successful and active Junior Big Boat and Ideal 18 Sailing Programs.

Applicants should possess the passion for teaching sailing, concern for safety on the water, and be able to demonstrate a maturity and professionalism to work with fellow instructors, staff, parents, and sailors of all ages. The ideal sailing instructor candidate should have participated in a junior sailing program, have an enthusiastic interest in imparting their racing experiences and sailing knowledge to sailors, have been exposed to some form of instructing, and have received a minimum of Level 1 US Sailing Certification, CPR and First Aid Certification. The ideal head instructor candidate should have a minimum of three years of sailing instructing experience, strong communication and organizational skills, experience in a leadership role, and hold a minimum of Level 2 US Sailing Certification, CPR and First Aid Certification. Current participation in collegiate sailing is preferred but not required.
